How did Donnie propose? We had been together over seven years, and for the last three, Donnie had been begging me to go on a hike with him. On August 24, 2014 I finally obliged. The trail was located in Westhampton on Long Island. It is ~1 mile long through the woods and opens up to a secluded beach. Donnie’s Mom, Judy, has a known passion for collecting beach glass so we decided to collect a few pieces for her. After ~5 minutes or so I stumbled across a picturesque bottle in the sand that appeared to have something inside it. Inside the bottle, I found a message which read “Will you marry me?”. At this point, I was shaking and Donnie was now on one knee and there was no more confusion as to what was happening. A few moments later, I realized Donnie’s two best friends were floating in a boat off shore photographing the entire thing. We headed back to the house where the surprises continued. Donnie had arranged for both of our families and closest friends to be there for the celebration.
Standout Memory of the night: It may sound cliche, but the first moment seeing each other as I walked down the aisle. We did not see each other before the ceremony and it is certainly a moment that will be impossible to forget. I was so nervous and excited at the same time – it was a rush! The entire night we felt on top of the world. At one point, someone asked Donnie how he felt and he exclaimed “I feel like I could run for President!”

One piece of advice that you could give to other couples: Make sure to spend time with each other throughout the night. It is very easy to get wrapped up in the to-do’s and making sure to say hi to everyone. What you will remember the most are the moments you shared with each other – after all, it is about you!
