How did Marc propose? Our engagement couldn’t have been more fitting…I had dinner reservations with a friend of mine who was in from out of town. I was rushing to get home from work so I could get ready and be on time (for once haha). I called Marc to tell him that I was on my way home and to come downstairs so we could walk Ace before I went upstairs to get ready for dinner (Marc was in Business School at the time at Columbia so he was home before I was on this day). Marc asked me to come upstairs instead and I said, absolutely not, I am running late and need to get moving. He insisted and I remember hanging up the phone on him after saying not so nicely that he was being very annoying and that I was not happy about it. When I got to our apartment and walked inside, I saw Marc in the living room surrounded by seven dozen roses, one dozen for each year we had been together. Marc was dressed in a nice suit and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was in such shock that I don’t think I said anything…after all, I had just finished yelling at him over the phone for making me late for my dinner reservation with my friend. Of course when I got my bearings I said yes! He then told me that we had a 9pm dinner reservation at the restaurant where we had our first date, seven years earlier – Gotham Bar and Grill. When we got to the restaurant, I walked in to see both of our families there to celebrate with us. I was shocked that Marc had put together such an elaborate plan but it made for one of the most memorable moments in my life. After eight years together, we got married on June 1, 2013 at the Four Seasons Restaurant in NYC. It had been a long time coming and was truly one of the best days of our lives.
Standout Memory of the night: Walking down the isle during the ceremony and my dance with my dad.
Honeymoon Location: We went to Capri and the Amalfi Coast in Italy. We spent 5 nights in Capri, about 8 nights in Positano and Ravello and then finished the trip in Rome before heading home. It was an absolutely spectacular honeymoon. Our favorite hotel was Il San Pietro in Positano…one of the most beautiful places either of us had ever been.
One piece of advice that you could give to other couples: Plan accordingly and stay VERY organized but don’t confuse yourself with too many options! Once you find a vendor or location that you love, STOP looking (especially when it comes to your dress)! Also, pick your location/venue first, book it EARLY, and plan everything else around it to coordinate properly.
Wedding Dress: Wedding Dress was Vera Wang. My gown was the Eliza by Vera Wang and we purchased it at the Vera Wang Boutique on Madison Avenue in NYC. This was one of my favorite experiences during the entire wedding process!
Groom’s Tux:Hickey Freeman
Bridesmaids’ Gift and Groomsmen’ Gift: I got all of my bridesmaids floating pearl necklaces (which they all wore for the ceremony) and Marc got all of the groomsmen Salvatore Farragamo ties.
Something borrowed and something blue: My something blue was my mom’s garter that she wore for her wedding day and my something borrowed was my mom’s diamond bracelet. My something old was the cake topper that my mom and dad used at their wedding and my something new was a pair of beautiful diamond drop earrings that my parents bought me for the big day.
