Couples Corner: Erica & Michael

When we heard Erica and Michael’s story, we knew we had to share it with you!  Thank you so much Erica and Michael for sharing!

It was love at first site. Website that is. Like many modern couples, we met on Match.com, a popular dating site. The groom-to-be even starred in a Match.com commercial, but no fame could keep him from @eksinnyc. When we first met, we had both been living in Manhattan for nearly a decade, yet had never met before, and if you’re a 20-30 something living in New York and enjoying that “Jewish social circuit”, you know how small the city can be.  Even more surprisingly, we learned on our first date that we had not one mutual friend on Facebook. SCORE! A fresh start.

Erica: “From the beginning, I knew what we had was unique. Special. Very special. Finally! I had found a (very) funny, (very) smart, (very) sweet and (VERY) handsome man who I could be myself with – who made me feel like the only girl in the room – who made me laugh – who supported me – who actually found me hysterical! And then I just knew. This is the one.

A few months into dating, I introduced Mike to my Dad who I provided with strict talking points. Mostly, he was instructed not to tell any dirty jokes. I remember Mike being so excited to meet him, hoping that my Dad would slip up and deliver some raunchy, inappropriate joke. Which he did. And as expected, they loved each other. They met a couple times after that and my Dad always raved about Mike. He adored him. When my Dad passed away suddenly in 2013, Mike was there for me in every way. He provided unconditional support. I am so grateful that my Dad had a chance to meet the wonderful man I’m going to marry. And like I said – I just knew. This is the one.”

Mike: “Realizing that Erica, my girlfriend at the time, might just be the “one”, was an awesome day.  As a man, I can’t say that I ever dreamed of the gorgeous tuxedo I’d wear on my special day but I did dream of a time when I wouldn’t have to go out 5 nights a week, telling my story to random strangers who I couldn’t care less about.  But, as they say, it’s a numbers game.  From our first interaction on the website, things just felt different with her.  I’m pretty sure our first Match.com correspondence went a little something like this:

  • @msw80: Hey there!
  • @eksinnyc: (no response)
  • @msw80: So, I rarely come across a profile that intrigues me as much as yours…
  • @eksinnyc: Really?
  • @msw80: YES! Can I ask you something?
  • @eksinnyc: Sure.
  • @msw80: I see you only have one photo of your face… If you’ve decided to meet the man of your dreams online, how could you not post more photos of like, the rest of you!? I mean, I get mystery and all, but C’MON!!!
  • @eksinnyc: (no response)
  • @msw80: How’s this Friday evening for a drink?
  • @eksinnyc: I thought you’d never ask J

Needless to say – drinks that Friday evening turned into dinner later that night and dates 2 – 10 happened over the next 10 days.  The last 2.5 years have flown by and I couldn’t be more thrilled to spend the rest of my life with such a wonderful, beautiful, hysterically funny, compassionate, tolerant (of my b.s.), loving, supportive girl.  Our journey is just getting started – fasten your seatbelts folks!!”

Our love for each other is strong and continues to grow every day. We are best friends and a day doesn’t go by when we don’t laugh. Hard. It’s easy to love when you’ve found your perfect match (.com).  We can’t wait to walk down the aisle in June, and share the rest of our lives together.
