The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity - Award Ceremony, 2017

The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity – Award Ceremony, 2017

The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity was established by Elie Wiesel and his wife, Marion, shortly after he was awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize for Peace. The Foundation’s mission, rooted in the memory of the Holocaust, is to advance the cause of human rights by creating forums for the discussion and resolution of urgent ethical issues. On Wednesday night, I had the honor of photographing this most meaningful awards ceremony. The award was given to the one and only Oprah Winfrey with performances by Kelly Clarkson. And if that wasn’t enough, Julia Roberts, Ronald Lauder, Elisha Wiesel, Ralph Lauren & Katie Couric all joined in the celebration.

As a grandchild of a survivor, events like this bring to light the good that can be done in the world. Elie Wiesel not only was a champion for Holocaust remembrance and education but for all injustice and humanitarian causes. I had the honor of getting to know Professor Wiesel and his family through the years. I’ve photographed him numerous times and have spent hours talking with him in private. After his passing, a light seemed to be extinguished. The current state of the country and at the world seems a bit darker these days. This evening reignited my belief that there is hope and there is more love and light in this world than it may seem.

Elie Wiesel was fiercely adamant against neutrality, and the stance led me, a person who is generally conflict-averse, to understand that we cannot afford to not speak up, to not testify when we notice actions occurring that perpetuate darkness and not light. Thank you, Dr. Wiesel, for your call to testify and bear witness as you have inspired countless others to follow suit.

Ines Di Santo - Fall/Winter 2017 Bridal Show

Ines Di Santo – Fall/Winter 2017 Bridal Show

Last week we had the honor of being invited to photograph and film Ines De Santo’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection. The show was inspired by a Parisian tea house with the most beautiful pastel color scheme.  We literally felt as if we had stepped inside the original Laduree patisserie on Rue Royal as the models swept their way down the runway in her exquisite creations. The model’s lips were painted candy pink and their eyes and nails shades of blue and lavender. Accentuated by cupcake headbands and various sweet delicacies placed around the room, the gowns took on an almost fairy tale like quality where every model looked like a princess out of a children’s book.

It was truly a “treat” to be invited to participate and we thank Grace Ormonde for including us.
