The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity - Award Ceremony, 2017
The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity was established by Elie Wiesel and his wife, Marion, shortly after he was awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize for Peace. The Foundation’s mission, rooted in the memory of the Holocaust, is to advance the cause of human rights by creating forums for the discussion and resolution of urgent ethical issues. On Wednesday night, I had the honor of photographing this most meaningful awards ceremony. The award was given to the one and only Oprah Winfrey with performances by Kelly Clarkson. And if that wasn’t enough, Julia Roberts, Ronald Lauder, Elisha Wiesel, Ralph Lauren & Katie Couric all joined in the celebration.
As a grandchild of a survivor, events like this bring to light the good that can be done in the world. Elie Wiesel not only was a champion for Holocaust remembrance and education but for all injustice and humanitarian causes. I had the honor of getting to know Professor Wiesel and his family through the years. I’ve photographed him numerous times and have spent hours talking with him in private. After his passing, a light seemed to be extinguished. The current state of the country and at the world seems a bit darker these days. This evening reignited my belief that there is hope and there is more love and light in this world than it may seem.
Elie Wiesel was fiercely adamant against neutrality, and the stance led me, a person who is generally conflict-averse, to understand that we cannot afford to not speak up, to not testify when we notice actions occurring that perpetuate darkness and not light. Thank you, Dr. Wiesel, for your call to testify and bear witness as you have inspired countless others to follow suit.

GiGi The Broadway Musical Opening Night Party
Last week we had the pleasure of photographing the opening night party for GiGi the Broadway Musical starring Vanessa Hudgens. Hosted at the newly renovated Tavern On The Green and sponsored by Veuve Clicquot champagne, the party was a complete hit! Thank you to Foresight Events for inviting us to photograph such a beautiful event.
Meet Rose...
How hard is it to buy something meaningful for the ones you love? Most would say they treasure their family’s photographs. Fred Marcus Studio has partnered with Rose to help you share photos with your loved one. No, this is not a new app, technology, format or gizmo. Rose rolls up her sleeves and helps your family do the following:
1. Map out a step by step plan of how you can complete your photo project and help you with resources to complete the project with as much or little help as you would like.
2. Consolidate, sort and label your printed photographs.
3. Coordinate with different family members to gather the family treasures, duplicate them, identify the people and places, etc.
4. Digitize your photos and videos.
5. Organize digital photos and video libraries and make sure that they are backed up.
6. Create a photo album library that will compliment your Fred Marcus Studio albums. These books can commemorate a special occasion, trip or a review of the year.
So, give your parents, wife, husband, children and even yourself the gift of an actual album filled with your treasured family photos. Call Fred Marcus today to get a gift card or book an appointment for yourself.
